Press Release

SUBJECT: Centennial Trail Patrol

Date: May 30, 2008

The Post Falls Police Department will be utilizing their Volunteers in Police Service on Patrol to start our second year of the Centennial Trail patrol. It has been a vision of the Post Falls Police Department to actively patrol the Centennial Trail that runs through the city limits. There have been some issues to deal with in regards to accessibility, staffing and vehicles to patrol the narrow trail.

The Post Falls Police Department has teamed up with River City Yamaha located in Post Falls to supply the appropriate vehicle. River City Yamaha has managed to outfit the department with a Yamaha Rhino 700; this is a four wheel drive vehicle that seats two side by side comfortably. The Rhino will be outfitted with First Aid kits for injured joggers, walkers and your basic medical calls on the trail. It will also have an air compressor for bicyclists who may have a flat tire along the trail. It will have fresh water, portable radios, shovels for those hard to get to brush fires and other equipment not listed.

These patrols will be staffed by our Volunteers on Patrol who will work in pairs. They will not only patrol the Centennial Trail looking for vandalism, transients, thefts and other crime, they will also be patrolling the area parks. We want the citizens of Post Falls to feel comfortable using the trail for its intended use, and that is jogging, bicycling, walking and just enjoying the beautiful sites along the Spokane River.

We see this as a very positive step in keeping our Trail clean. If you have questions about this program please contact Lt. Pat Knight at 777-2245 or pknight@postfallspolice.com
